PharmaCRADLE-27th JULY 2013-Summary report of Mr. Jaimin Vasa

PharmaCRADLE i.e “Capability Recognition and Development Lessons on Entrepreneurship “ is a series of invited lectures delivered by eminent entrepreneurs of the pharmacy field, wherein invited speakers describe their paths of glory and the journey they undertook to reach from where they started to where they are today. The series is designed to motivate the students to opt for entrepreneurship in Pharmacy.
Moving further on this path, the series was continued with another eminent personality on 27th July 2013 (1.30-3:30 p.m.) at L. J. Auditorium wherein, students of M.Pharm Sem III, B.Pharm Sem VII, B.Pharm Sem V as well as members of faculty of L.J. Institute of Pharmacy had the opportunity to witness the entrepreneurial journey of Mr. Jaimin Vasa, MD, Vasa Pharmachem Pvt.Ltd.
Dr. K.Pundarikakshudu, Director, LJIP welcomed him with “Tulsi Kyara”, signifying the positive vibrations being a healing herb and expressed his pleasure for having Mr.Vasa in the PharmaCRADLE series. A brief introduction of the guest was given by Prof. Jayant Deshpande, Principal, L.J. Institute of Pharmacy.
Some of Mr. Jaimin Vasa’s credentials are as follows:
• President of Gujarat Pharmaceutical Association
• President, Gujarat Chemical Association since 1999
• Chairman of the MSME Committee of the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry    since 2000
• Member of academic council of GTU & NIRMA University.
Recognition/Award received by Vasa Pharmachem:-
2007-“Outstanding Export Performance Award” by Industries Department, Govt. of Gujarat.
2010 - “Growth in Production and Profit Award” in MSME Category by Mr. Narendrabhai Modi, Hon. Chief Minister, Govt. of Gujarat.
2011 – “Best Micro Enterprise in the Pharmaceutical sector in India” by D&B, Axis Bank in the category of Business Gaurav SME Award.
2012 – “INDIA SME 100 AWARD” by The Bank of India & supported by the Union Ministry of the Small and Medium Enterprises.
Mr. Vasa has done his Chemical Engineering from Dharamsingh Desai University Nadiad. Mr.Vasa started the session describing his early years wherein he, along with his father, started the journey of entrepreneurship with an industry named “Vasa Chemicals” in 1979. Vasa Chemicals mainly synthesized dyes used in textile industry. But since the industry was getting limited in scopes, they decided to venture into pharma chemicals and that was how the inception of “Vasa Pharmachem” happened in 1988.
He beautifully described the quality of entrepreneur by an acronym, coined by him as ‘TRAIN’. He explained the meaning of the acronym with the principles which are very essential to run a company successfully or in any venture of life

 I =Integrity
 N =New Development
He further moved on to describe the importance of research and development in running a successful company. His R&D includes improvements in catalysis in chemical industry, manufacturing process, reduction in cost of production, application development and design of new products relevant to the Indian & International market needs. The company also follows stringent rules pertaining to GMP and the company is in the process of upgrading & modernizing the plant to get an accreditation of WHO-GMP. Further he described that for any company, innovation is essential to keep up to the market demands and also for the growth of the organization. He also emphasized on the implementation of newer technological tools & softwares especially ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) and other tools which help in facilitating innovative strategies in the company. He then displayed all the honors and felicitations achieved by the company after years of hard work and team effort and encouraged all the students to strive towards their goals using these two assets.
Lastly, he assured that he would encourage the emerging young entrepreneurs and students of the institute by allotting some projects and research work to the institute.
The session was followed by a brief question answer session where faculty as well as students interacted with Mr.Vasa regarding many facets of the pharma field including his take on the problems prevailing in the present pharmacy scenario.
After the thought provoking speech, he was felicitated by Dr. K. Pundarikakshudu with memento as a token of love and thanks. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Shreeraj Shah.

Ph.D. in Pharmacology with more than 22 years of experience. Wide knowledge base and experience of
varied  facets  of  pharmaceutical  research  including  Pharmacology,  Toxicology,  Bioavailability  &
Bioequivalence Studies, Clinical Trials, Medical Writing and exposure to international Audits.  Also
conversant with Regulatory guidelines and IPR in Pharmaceutical R&D as well as CRO set up.
      Carried out more than 350 Bioavailability and Bioequivalence studies in a capacity of either as a Principal Investigator or as a scientific head.
      Co-ordinated for around 175 bioequivalence studies with various CROs in India as well as abroad as one of the assignment which resulted in submission of 86 dossiers including US, France, Brazil, South Africa etc. in a short span of 18 months.
      Actively participated in carrying out total of 50 end to end clinical trials including Phase I, Phase-II (part of NDA submission to US FDA), Phase-III and Phase IV clinical trials at different centers across India.
      A member of Board of studies at faculty of Pharmacy, Ganpat vidhyanagar, Ganpat University.

Mr. Om Arya-PharmaCRADLE Report -16th JULY 2013

The PharmaCRADLE series was inaugurated in SPANDAN 2013 (on 4th April, 2013) by two great entrepreneurs of our times:
1. Mr.Kaushik Shah, CEO Sushen Medicamentos Pvt. Ltd.
2. Ms Monika Verma, MD Alinda Pharmaceuticals.

Moving further on this path, the series was continued with another invited lecture on 16th July 2013 10.30 a.m. at L. J. Auditorium wherein , students of M.Pharm Sem III and B.Pharm Sem VII as well as members of faculty of L.J.Institute of Pharmacy had the opportunity to witness the entrepreneur journey of Mr.Omprakash Arya MD Zydus Hospira Ltd.

Prof.Jayant Deshpande, Principal, L.J. Institute of Pharmacy introduced Mr. Arya to the audience. Mr.Arya has done his Post Graduation in Biochemistry and Business Administration and is associated with the company since the last 30 yrs. Dr. K.Pundarikakshudu, Director, L.J. INstitute of Pharmacy welcomed him with “Tulsi Kyara”, signifying the positive vibrations being a healing herb.
Mr. Arya has been primarily associated with the marketing department and started his career as a Medical Representative. Gradually he moved on to become an Area Manager and then continued his journey developing the company and continuing from where he has reached today.
He has also worked with ALIDAC and Reckon, which are a part of the company and played important role in their upliftment and progress.
Amongst the immensely valuable mantras that he gave for a successful professional and personal life, the following principles were most inspiring:
1. Self-Learning and Hard Work
2. Contributing
3. Effective and disciplined member of the team
4. Effective team leader
5. Personal humility and professional skills
As he discussed each point, he said these were important milestones in

his career and if one keeps in mind the above, he or she is bound to achieve whatever he or she wants in life.

Furthermore, he narrated the historic split of Cadila where he along with many other employees witnessed the reasons, the progressions and the implications of the split which he very truly summarized as the “PERI SPLIT” period.
Thus Mr.Arya gave a very important message in his lecture that however tough the times may be or however impossible the journey seems to be, hard work always acts like a beacon of light in the dark. Explore your strengths and potential and these will take you towards success and good times. Your luck will always favour you when you work sincerely and diligently.
After the thought provoking speech, he was felicitated by Dr. K. Pundarikakshudu

with memento as a token of love and thanks. The vote of thanks was delivered by Prof. Jayant Deshpande, Principal, LJIP who also concluded the session, thanking Mr. Om Arya with the motivational and encouraging words for students.

Inaugural PharmaCRADLE-2013-Summary (4th April, 2013)

Event Summary of  Inaugural PharmaCRADLE-2013
 
L. J. Institute of Pharmacy is one of the leading pharmacy colleges in Gujarat, run by Lok Jagruti Kendra trust in Ahmedabad. The top management of the trust and the institute has come up with an innovative idea about exploring as well addressing the inclination of the students towards entrepreneurship in pharmaceutical field.
The growth story of India in the pharmacy field is very well known.  The Indian Pharmaceutical industry has grown from a mere Rs. 1,500 crore turnover in 1980 to over Rs. 78,000 crore in 2008 with about 10 per cent of share volume of global production.
This growth story is further boosted since the Indian Patent Act has been introduced in 1970, especially since January 1, 2005. The Indian pharma companies, especially companies from Gujarat, have been benefited considerably from the act. There are immense opportunities for Indian generics firms in regions, such as the US, Europe, Japan, and Africa. Due to this there will be more job opportunities in the pharmaceutical field and will be the driving force to pursue the objective of exploring and for that matter infusing entrepreneurial aptitude in pharmacy students.
Keeping in mind of the inherent Entrepreneurship mindset and will to succeed of the Gujarati people, especially Gujarati pharma students, L. J. Institute of Pharmacy, Ahmedabad has started a new series called “PharmaCRADLE”. “CRADLE” means Capability Recognition And Development Lessons for Entrepreneurship. In this innovative event, various Directors, CEOs and Heads of the different pharmaceutical industries will be called where they will talk about their journey as an entrepreneur and will portray their life canvas, which will inspire the budding pharmacists to become successful entrepreneur themselves.
The event was organized on 4th April, 2013 at L.J. Institute of Pharmacy, Ahmedabad. LJIP called various directors of famous pharmaceutical companies who talked about their journey from a student to an eminent Entrepreneur.
The session started by Dr. Siddharth Bist, Dean, LJIMS, who gave a brief introduction of the CRADLE series which won a pedagogical award by GTU in 2013.
Dr. Shreeraj Shah, Chief coordinator-PharmaCRADLE and Asso. Prof., LJIP highlighted the need for PharmaCRADLE series considering the present pharmaceutical scenario.
Dr. K. Pundarikakshudu, Director, LJIP gave the welcome speech and introduced the esteemed guests to the audience.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Prof. Jayant Deshpande, Organizing Chairman- Spandan-2013 and Principal, LJIP who also concluded the session with the motivational and encouraging words for students.

She talked about her journey starting as an academician to a director of her own company. She is one of the upcoming woman entrepreneurs in the pharmaceutical field. Her speech was very inspirational which was followed by Q&A session with faculties as well as students.
  
Mr. Vineet Bawa, Country head, Alinda Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd.
He explained the characteristics of entrepreneur by showing various inspirational videos.
  
All speakers infused and explored the entrepreneurial aptitude and inclination of the pharmacy students.
All the speakers were felicitated by Dr. K. Pundarikakshudu who gave them mementos as a token of love and thanks.
